Ryan O’Connell and I made a surprise return to the studio this month, for the Grand Final Special edition of the Cheap Seats podcast.

All the Grand Final hot takes are ready, interlaced with #AskTheCheapSeats questions, as the boys work their way through both the AFL and NRL Grand Finals this weekend.

Topics covered include:

  • Swans supporters v the rest of Australia
  • The very different roads Sydney and the Western Bulldogs took to reach the GF
  • How the Bulldogs saved GF Week – and especially the parade
  • My anguish tip, and why I’m not sure if I should feel dirty
  • Why Ryan hates Cronulla
  • Why everyone else hates Melbourne
  • The very different roads the Storm and Sharks took to reach the GF
  • A couple of much less-anguished tips

the Cheap Seats podcast: Ryan O’Connell and I are bearing the scars of a Grand Final thumping in Episode 55 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

In this episode, Ryan opens up with the worst intro in Cheap Seats history, while my attempted positive spin on Michael Hooper’s captaincy quickly falls apart.

ABC Grandstand: Waratahs take 2014 Super Rugby title

ABC Grandstand Digital: With the Full Scottish Breakfast guys on Grandstand this morning, we reviewed the Waratahs’ triumph in what was an epic Super Rugby Final at ANZ Stadium in Sydney last night. You can hear the clip here, below.

The ‘best ever’ tag does get thrown out there too quickly these days, not unlike ‘legend’ and ‘greatest of all time’, but even having slept on it, last night’s Final hasn’t diminished in my initial assessment post-match:

In the end, a Bernard Foley penalty in the 80th minute from right on the end of his range was enough to get the Waratahs home by a point, and it’s a just reward for a superb season for the side. And it’s good for Australian rugby, too, with flow-on interest now for the Wallabies and the upcoming National Rugby Championship. Happy days…

WARATAHS 33 (Bernard Foley 7/8 pens; Adam Ashley-Cooper 2 tries; Foley 1/2 conv) defeated the CRUSADERS 32 (Matt Todd, Nemani Nadolo tries; Dan Carter 1/1, Colin Slade 1/1 conv; Slade 6/6 pens). Crowd: 61,823 (Super Rugby record crowd) at ANZ Stadium.
