Cheap Seats podcast: the Super Rugby preview edition

We had to ask for directions, but Ryan O’Connell and I have managed to find our way back to the studio for a 2016 Super Rugby preview edition of the Cheap Seats podcast.

Thankfully the podcast’s regulars have been waiting in anticipation, with a swag of #AskTheCheapSeats questions waiting to be covered ahead of expanded 18-team competition.

Among them, criticisms of the new structure being overstated or well justified, whether the best team will still win the competition, players leaving in droves after the RWC, the likely success or failure of the three new teams and how they’ll do, the new maul Law tweaks, rookies to watch, how the Waratahs will go, how the Reds will go, whether Richard Graham is a dead man walking, squad depth, how well the Melbourne Rebels will do, potential surprise packets, how well the New Zealand and South Africa teams will do, and finally, a prediction for 2016 Champions.

If you’d been wondering about the Super Rugby season, and how this new-fangled four-conference, five-countries, 18-team monstrosity might work, we’ve probably got you covered.

Return of the Cheap Seats: the RWC Final special edition

Ryan O’Connell and I have reconvened for a very special Rugby World Cup Final edition of the Cheap Seats podcast.

Whispers of a return were well received, and spawned a new batch of RWC #AskTheCheapSeats questions, most probably to ensure the boys had something to talk about.

In the most anticipated RWC Final in trans-Tasman rugby history, topics in the lead-up to the Australia-New Zealand decider included the fitness of Israel Folau, the prospect of wet weather (including a terrible BBC voice), the big performers for either side, tactical kicking, the likelihood of free-flowing attack, the Wallabies’ improvements under Michael Cheika, the moments of RWC2015, the whole Craig Joubert episode, the point of the 3rd v 4th Playoff, and the Player of the Tournament, among others.

In short, if there’s something you’re wondering about to do with the Final, we’ve got you covered.

Cheap Seats Episode 87: The #AskTheCheapSeats Special. And a bombshell…

Ryan O’Connell and I are toying with unlucky numbers in Episode 87 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

Do events in Canberra last night put Mike Hussey's PMs XI Captaincy in question? Will Brad Haddin mount a challenge to the leadership?

Do events in Canberra last night put Mike Hussey’s PMs XI Captaincy in question? Will Brad Haddin mount a challenge to the leadership?

With such a milestone episode upon us, the boys have again opened up the show to the listeners, answering #AskTheCheapSeats questions that came in thick and fast over the last ten days.

Topic were wide and ranging, and included – among others – Leadership spills, Wallabies playmaking, Sightseeing on the tour of Bangladesh, NFL, Roger Federer, Usman Khawaja, Elysse Perry, injury-prone bowlers, the Roosters whinging, generational change in the Australian cricket team, kids eating cat food, day/night Test cricket, NRC and ITM Cup teams playing each other, Sam Burgess, Aussies killing it in the US, the NBL and the NBA, and Robbie Farah.

And there’s a bombshell about the podcast itself, which we won’t spoil, but will just say thanks.

Cheap Seats Episode 86: Yes, we forgot Hayne

Ryan O’Connell and I are rapidly losing control of our schedules in Episode 86 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

The biggest #AskTheCheapSeats in yonks takes up more than half the show, with topics including Robbie Farah, Bart Cummings, the shoulder charge, NRC marketing, and Nick Kyrgios.

Even as a still shot, this Shane Watson dismissal is still funny...

Even as a still shot, this Shane Watson dismissal is still funny…

Plus, we tackle last week’s layover question of ranking the top 5 batsmen in the Test cricket history, and attempt to explain how the bloody hell we managed to forget about discussing Jarryd Hayne’s NFL tilt in Ep85. Idiots.

After all that, there’s also just enough time to ponder Who’s This Week’s NRL Premiership Favourite, why AFL runaway leaders Fremantle resting players is much ado about nothing, label a Wallabies selection cynical and laugh at Shane Watson. Plus the weekly wrap up of the Cheap Seats Tipping League, which you can join now for the Rugby World Cup.
