Good luck or good management? Stephen Larkham on THAT 1999 drop goal

“Could you write us something about Stephen Larkham’s 1999 Rugby World Cup drop goal?” The Roar asked me last week.

Sure I could, but better yet, why don’t I just go to the man himself and let him talk us through it? Brilliant idea, they said, do that.

So I did. And he did. But the tale he told was not quite the tale I was expecting to hear…

ABC Grandstand Digital: A great intro to my spot on Grandstand Breakfast  this morning, with Francis Leach playing me a ‘best of’ last year’s quotes from Western Force and Wallabies winger and cult hero, Nick “the honey badger” Cummins. “Sweating like a gypsy with a mortgage” remains a firm favourite.

A great chat today, with Round 2 already under way overnight, where we discussed the goal-kicking yips of the Crusaders last night, and a couple of cracking Australian derby games coming up in Canberra tonight, and Sydney tomorrow. I even managed a live score update for the Wales-France 6 Nations game, eventually won 27-6 by Wales.

Two heads better than one in new Brumbies coaching structure

The biggest sporting saga in the ACT in the last few months has finally been resolved, with the Brumbies confirming their coaching structure for the next two seasons in the wake of former coach, Jake White’s departure back in September.

The Brumbies have promoted both of White’s assistants, with Laurie Fisher appointed to a Director of Rugby role, while Stephen Larkham becomes the club’s new Head Coach.

Using a structure common to European rugby clubs, both Fisher and Larkham take on new positions with the Brumbies for the next two seasons. Continue reading
