Usman Khawaja will make his One Day International debut today in Melbourne, and with it comes the perfect audition and reintroduction for him into the Australian set-up ahead of a likely recall to the Test team for the tour to India next month.

Over on The Roar today, I’ve had a bit of a look at Khawaja’s off-season move north of the Tweed, and how his state and BBL form can easily transfer into the national team for as long as he wants it..

…Khawaja might just be Queensland’s best-performed New South Wales import since Greg Inglis.

Has there been a more impressive Test Debut?

Sure, some blokes have gone on and got hundreds and all that, but I don’t think I’ve seen a debutant make a more composed, a more quite-obviously-a-Test-class-batsman 37 than Usman Khawaja made on Day 1.  Wow, what an intro to Test cricket…
